ABSTRACT
"The history of civilisations and places conveys the importance of the role that the culture of sport and the cultured management of free time play in defining the identity of peoples and communities. Making these areas cultural assets to be shared and valued, analysing the dynamics of transformation of the city and the territory connected to them, is a conscious, necessary and ethically correct action. The context of European architecture increasingly shows transformative operations and the settlement of multi-functional sports facilities and poles, which play a decisive and strategic role in the configuration of urban fabrics and the landscape. The activation of a theoretical debate, both basic and permanent, represents the fundamental and strategic act for the credibility and professionalism of a sector that strongly communicates the need to re-modernise and re-qualify technical, managerial and executive cadres through a renewed cultural approach. The book is intended to promote an awareness and promotional action aimed at enhancing the design of sports infrastructures, as a collective asset that promotes civic identity, through an analysis of the physical and intangible factors and the figures involved in their design, construction and management. In the sphere of contemporary architecture, the design of sports facilities offers an extraordinary opportunity for strategic adaptation and re-evaluation of the environment and its paradigmatic places. The sports infrastructure is also an important opportunity for architectural, design and technological experimentation: the main objective of this work is to X-ray its soul and enhance its potential.
